1. Student Cap Statue
1.1. The student cap of Tallinn University of Technology (hereinafter: the cap) is a shallow leather-peaked cap with a steel-grey bottom, a white welt, and an ornament; on a cherry red edge of it says “Tallinna Tehnikaülikool”.
1.2. Grey symbolises the steely toughness and stamina of our students in acquiring knowledge. White is the colour of peace, progress and high morality. Cherry red expresses the joy of living, thirst for action and glowing.
1.3. Every student, alumnus/alumna, member of the Council, employee, Professor Emeritus/Emerita and Docent Emeritus/Emerita, Honorary Member, Honorary Professor and Honorary Doctor of Tallinn University of Technology have the right to wear a student cap.
1.4. The role of the student cap is to:
1.4.1. enhance the responsibility of the cap wearer for the good name and impeccable reputation of his or her alma mater;
1.4.2. emphasize the togetherness of the cap wearers;
1.4.3. increase the authority of the Student Body in society.
1.5. Every TalTech student can buy a student cap from the TalTech Student Union. The Statute and Rules of Procedure of the TalTech Student Cap shall be handed over along with a student cap.
1.6. If a student is exmatriculated due to poor academic performance and/or contemptible behaviour, he or she loses the right to wear the student cap.
2. Rules of Procedure of the Student Cap
2.1. The student cap is academic headwear and shall be worn with proper clothing.
2.2. The student cap must be kept clean. It is prohibited to wear symbols not related to TalTech on the student cap.
2.3. Welcoming takes place by lifting the cap. Welcoming of TalTech Management and the Deans is obligatory.
2.4. The cap shall be taken off during the following indoor occasions: when the flag of the University, the Student Body and/or the national flag is carried in, upon presentation of the national anthem and at mourning ceremonies. During these occasions the cap shall be held on the left wrist with the peak turned outwards. On other indoor occasions the student cap is left on.
2.5. The cap shall be taken off during the following outdoor occasions: upon hoisting the national flag outdoors, upon presentation of the national anthem, in church and church gardens or on any other occasions if the relevant instructions have been provided.
2.6. It is recommended to wear the student cap at the following events:
2.6.1. TalTech anniversary – 17 September;
2.6.2. Anniversary of the Student Body – 1 October;
2.6.3. Student march to Toompea – 24 February;
2.6.4. Student Days;
2.6.5. events representing the students.
3. Implementing provisions
3.1. This Statute shall enter into force on the date following the adoption thereof by the Student Union.
3.2. The Student Cap Statute adopted by the decision of 8 April 2014 of the Student Union shall be repealed upon entry into force of this Statute.
